Vol. 299 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

76.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the application for disability benefit from a person in County Dublin (details supplied).

The disability benefit claim of the person referred to by the Deputy was disallowed following examinations on two occasions by medical referees who expressed the opinion that she was capable of work. The claimant has appealed against the disallowance and her appeal will be determined by way of oral hearing. A date for the hearing of the appeal as early as possible is being arranged.

77.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have unemployment assistance paid to a person (name supplied) in County Cork.

The claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned was allowed on appeal and the benefit due to her from the date of her claim was paid by post on 29th April, 1977. Further payments will continue as they fall due. Title to unemployment assistance does not arise as entitlement to unemployment benefit has not yet been exhausted.

78.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment benefit will be paid to a person in County Meath (details supplied) who has submitted five claims.

The person concerned cannot be paid unemployment benefit as he has exhausted his title to that benefit on 21st March, 1977. He has applied for unemployment assistance but the necessary inquiries into his circumstances have not yet been completed. Every effort is being made to have these inquiries completed as soon as possible to enable a decision to be made on his application.

79.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have a person (details supplied) in County Cork included in the payment of children's allowance.

The allowance book in respect of the child concerned was issued on 2nd May, 1977.

80.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made on the application for unemployment assistance by a person (name supplied) in County Meath who is married with four children and who is living on £10 per week home assistance.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to his question on 31st March, 1977, concerning the application for unemployment assistance by the person concerned. The social welfare officer's report outstanding at that time has since been received and has been referred for consideration to the chief appeals officer who has directed that the circumstances of the case warrant an oral hearing before an appeals officer. Arrangements are being made to hold this hearing as soon as possible at which it will be open to the person concerned to attend and give evidence on his own behalf. He will be notified of the place, time and date of the hearing in due course.
