Written Answers. - Western Health Board Area Jobs.

asked the Minister for Health the number of jobs, of the projected 2,000 in his Department, which will be realised in the Western Health Board area; the services that will benefit by the future increases; and the number of appointments that will be made in each service.

The total number of new posts approved for the health services in the this year's budget is 2,900. Three hundred and thirty of these are for the Western Health Board, 13 are for Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe and eight have been allocated to the services provided by the Brothers of Charity at Castlerea, Kilcornan and Renmore. My Department are in correspondence with the Western Health Board regarding the creation of some additional posts for the Welfare Home in Newcastle, Galway.

The job creation programme provides for additional posts in all categories of health services staff and accordingly all services will benefit. The distribution of the 330 posts approved for the Western Health Board between services is as follows:

Community Care

General Hospitals, plus long-stay units

80

(including 58 for new units).

Psychiatric Services

(including 79 for new units).
