Vol. 299 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tara Mining Operations.

61.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will furnish a transcript of the oral hearing in respect of Tara mining operations in November, 1973, together with details of the statement by the officer of his Department who conducted the appeal and of the solicitor for Meath County Council in relation to water supplies affected by mining operations, particularly those of a person (details supplied) in County Meath, at which it was stated that alternative water supplies would be provided by Meath County Council for persons affected.

It is not possible to furnish a transcript as there was no verbatim report of the oral hearing. While it is not the practice to disclose the contents of inspectors' reports, I can, in the special circumstances, say that the report of the inspector who conducted this hearing indicates that there was evidence that the new mid-Meath regional water supply scheme would serve the area but gives no support to the suggestion that an assurance was given on behalf of Meath County Council which went further than that.
