Vol. 299 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Properties.

31.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of barracks and other properties held by his Department; the cost of their maintenance; the number of troops in each; and the rates payable to the local authority.

The number of properties owned or administered by my Department is approximately 90, excluding FCA halls, huts and rented premises. The estimated cost of maintenance for 1977 is approximately £1.8 million of which £1.1 million is for civilian labour. The amount paid to local authorities by way of rates and contribution-in-lieu of rates in respect of all Department of Defence property for 1976 was £525,855. It would not be in the interest of security to furnish information about the number of troops in each barracks.
