Vol. 299 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Telephone.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone number in County Laois (details supplied) was taken off the priority telephone service list and why.

The answer to the first part of the question is March, 1973. Priority maintenance attention ceased to be applicable after that date in accordance with long established practice.

Would the Minister agree that it could be important, in the interest of the business of the Oireachtas, that this line of communication be properly maintained?

The telephones of Government Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are, and have always been, afforded priority maintenance attention. The person who is the subject of this question belonged to this category until March, 1973, and was afforded priority maintenance attention for his own telephone. This facility was withdrawn in March, 1973, when the priority lists were revised in consequence of certain political changes which the Deputy will recall occurred in the country at that time.

There must be a shorter way of saying that.

Less acceptable to some.
