Vol. 299 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rates Relief.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of money being subscribed by the Government to Limerick corporation in respect of relief of rates for housing estate tenants and private householders.

Limerick Corporation have already estimated that an additional £450,000 will be paid to them by the Exchequer this year so as to reduce by 25 per cent the rates payable on all domestic property in the city, including both private and local authority houses. It is estimated that a further £26,250 will be given by way of State grant to Limerick Corporation in the present year to enable them to increase expenditure on their rates waiver scheme.

In addition to these reliefs, rate-payers generally in Limerick city are benefiting in 1977 to the extent of an estimated £2 million from the Government's action in removing health and certain housing charges from the rates.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, and in view of the urgency and importance of Questions Nos. 29, 30, 31, 49, 59 and 60, the latter two relating to cannabis and the Drug Squad, could I have written replies to them?

I am sure the Deputy will be facilitated in that regard.
