Vol. 299 No. 9

Written Answers. - Passport Restrictions.

49.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if restrictions are in force for applicants for passports to certain countries; and if he will state the countries and the restrictions.

It is not the policy of the Government to interfere with the normal freedom of citizens who wish to travel abroad. However, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council's Resolution 253 (1968), which is mandatory on us as a member state, passport facilities are not given to Irish citizens for emigration to Rhodesia. Rhodesia is the only country to which a restriction applies.
