Vol. 299 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford Bog Development.

28.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if Bord na Móna intend to develop the recently acquired bogland in County Longford and to establish a peat briquette factory there which is badly needed in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Cavan): I am informed by Bord na Móna that the boglands they are acquiring in County Longford will be developed as part of their third bog development programme for the production of milled peat. All the milled peat from these bogs will be used for the generation of electricity in an extension of the ESB power station at Lanesboro. No surplus will be available for briquetting.
