Vol. 299 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - OPW Employment.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance if interviews are being held for employment in the Office of Public Works for the Dún Laoghaire area of County Dublin; and, if so, the date of the interviews, the number of applicants interviewed and the type of employment on offer.

Interviews were held on Monday and Tuesday, 9th and 10th May, 1977, in connection with vacancies for general operatives for harbour and building maintenance work in the Dún Laoghaire area. Thirty-three persons were called for interview of whom 20 attended.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say how many people were employed arising out of the interview?

No one has been employed as yet. Four people were recommended for appointment but, as the Deputy is aware, certain procedures have to be gone through.

Who recommended the four people?

The Deputy is suffering from election jitters.

I asked the Parliamentary Secretary a reasonable question.

They were recommended by Manpower, of course.

I was wondering if it was the Taoiseach or Deputy Percy Dockrell.

Maybe it was the Taoiseach.

Off Deputy Haughey goes to Inismhicileáin for about three weeks. He will do just as much down there as he would do here. Inismhicileáin for the Deputy.

The Minister might shoot at me.

Not at all. I will not shoot the Deputy. He should keep looking out at the Atlantic. That is as far as he will go.

The Minister might blow me out.

Order. I must insist on order at Question Time.
