Vol. 299 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Transport.

5.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the manner in which his Department ensure compliance with the area specification per hundredweight required for the transport of cattle in lorries.

Legislation governing the transit of animals does not specify the area per hundredweight required for the transport of cattle in lorries. There are statutory safeguards, however, to ensure that cattle are transported in such a manner as to avoid injury or unnecessary suffering to them.
