Vol. 299 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 8 (resumed), 5, 9 (resumed) and 10 (Vote 41).

Mr. Lynch

I ask the Taoiseach for a little explanation of the sequence of events. Our Whips Office have interpreted the guillotine motion as follows, and it might be of assistance to the House if the Taoiseach would confirm it: Finance Bill to 1 p.m.; 1 p.m. to 1.30 p.m., the Friendly Societies Bill; 1.30 to 2.30 p.m., the Prisons Bill; 2.30 to 3.30, the resumption of the Committee Stage of the Finance Bill; then the Estimate for the Department of Labour, and the Final Stages of the Finance Bill from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. The Taoiseach does not have to respond. I do not expect him to because he has not been very helpful so far.

I understand the order has been arranged between the Whips.

I have not got yesterday's Order Paper.

Mr. Lynch

It is surprising the Attorney General has not read his speech.

I did not realise there was any difficulty about it.

I suppose we will have to guess as we go along.

The point is that the sequence in which the remaining business is to be conducted was determined by the House yesterday. The sequence which the Taoiseach has just announced was not chronological but simply an enumeration of the items to be dealt with.

The point raised was whether the sequence would be as outlined by Deputy Lynch. The guillotine motion on its face is not as clear as it might have been.
