Vol. 299 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dentist Penalties.

34.

andMr. Keaveney asked the Minister for Health (i) the number of dentists who have been struck off the register since 1928; and (ii) the number of dentists who have had lesser penalties or sanctions applied since 1928.

I presume that the Deputies are referring to erasures from the dental register under sections 31 and 32 of the Dentists Act, 1928, which enable the Dental Board to erase from that register the names of dentists who have been convicted of crimes or who are found guilty of infamous or disgraceful conduct. The position is that there has been only one such erasure in 1937 since the commencement of the Act. There is no provision in that Act for the application of lesser penalties or sanctions.
