Vol. 299 No. 11

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

49.

andMr. Keaveney asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when automatic telephone service will be available in those parts of County Donegal not now so served.

Automatic equipment is on order for 22 manual exchanges in County Donegal, including Letterkenny where installation work is at present in progress. These exchanges together serve over 56 per cent of subscribers in the county with non-automatic telephones. It is expected that Letterkenny will be converted to automatic working early in 1979 and the other 21 exchanges in 1979-1980 subject in some cases to exchange buildings being provided without undue difficulty or delay.

The remaining exchanges in the county will be converted as early as practicable but reliable estimates of completion dates cannot be given at this stage.
