Vol. 300 No. 10

Written Answers. - Doctors' Posts.

321.

asked the Minister for Health if any estimate has been made of the average number of posts in public and private practice for medical doctors becoming available each year; and if this exceeds the average number of Irish doctors graduating in Irish medical schools each year.

The average number of posts for registered medical practitioners becoming available each year throughout the health services is approximately 120. The position is not known with regard to doctors in purely private practice but the number engaged in such practice would not be significant.

The average number of Irish doctors graduating from Irish medical schools each year has been 340 over the past five years.
