Vol. 301 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Driving Insurance Policies.

13.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of a recent Circuit Court decision, it is his intention to introduce amending legislation validating age restrictions on open driving insurance policies.

The question of amending the present regulations on the subject is under consideration.

Is the Minister aware that there is no specification in relation to age in the Road Traffic Acts? Does he agree with the principle that extended cover must bring about increased premium costs?

I have said that the question of changing the regulations is under review. I will be in a position to make a further statement on this matter in a very short time.

Could the Minister be more specific? Has an application been made to the Department in respect of increased premium costs?

I do not have that specific information about premium costs.

Does the Minister expect that an amendment to the Road Traffic Act, 1961 will be necessary in this case?

I spoke about amending the present regulations.

Is the Minister talking about amending the regulations or the Principal Act?

The regulations.
