Vol. 301 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

468.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (details supplied) was informed on seven occasions that his contributory old age pension book would be available at Andrew Street Post Office, Dublin but which was not so available; and if he will ensure that this person will now get his book.

A pension order book in respect of the person named was sent to St. Andrew Street Post Office on 20th October, 1977. When my Department were informed that the pension book was not available at the post office, a replacement book was prepared. The pensioner collected this book by special arrangement from the Department's public office on Friday, 4th November last.

469.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if free travel will be extended to a person (name supplied) in Dublin who is the holder of an invalidity benefit order book from the British Government, who returned to Ireland two years ago and is obliged to travel regularly to recovery meetings, in view of the fact that free travel is granted to those with a similar benefit from the Irish Government.

Free travel cannot be extended to the person concerned as she does not fulfil the qualifying conditions for this benefit. These conditions require that she should have reached old age pension age, which since 1st October is 66, or alternatively that she should belong to either of the categories under old age pension age to which free travel was extended from 1st April 1977, namely recipients of invalidity pension from my Department or of disabled person's maintenance allowance from a health board.
