Vol. 301 No. 5

Written Answers. - Maternity Leave.

477.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in detail in relation to each semi-State body associated with his Department, what arrangements, if any, exist for the provision of paid maternity leave for their employees; and, in the case of any which do not have such arrangements, the steps he proposes to take to see that such arrangements are made.

The only semi-State bodies attached to my Department for which I have ministerial responsibility in relation to employees' conditions of service are Coras Beostoic agus Feola and the Cork and Dublin District Milk Boards. I understand that none of these provides for paid maternity leave.

With regard to the second part of the question, I consider that payment for such leave is a matter for negotiation between the staff and their employers in the first instance.
