Vol. 301 No. 6

Written Answers. - Arklow Harbour Facilities.

509

asked the Minister for Fisheries the present position regarding the provision of fishing facilities at Arklow Harbour, County Wicklow.

512.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if there were any plans in his Department to improve the facilities for fishermen in the port of Arklow, County Wicklow.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I am taking Questions Nos. 509 and 512 together. I am having plans for improvements within the dock area at Arklow Harbour examined in the fishery interest. When this examination is complete I will be in a position to decide what works, if any, at this harbour will be accepted for a State grant.

510.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the present position regarding further developments at Arklow Harbour, County Wicklow.

511.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he intends to make money available to Arklow Harbour Board to reconstruct and extend their port.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle it is proposed to take Questions Nos. 510 and 511 together. Following is the reply:

The Arklow Harbour Commissioners received over £500,000 of State aid for a major development scheme recently carried out by them.

As far as I am aware the commissioners have no further developments in mind at the present time except in so far as facilities for fishing vessels are concerned. This would not be within my area of responsibility.
