Vol. 301 No. 8

Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) Bill, 1977: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to prevent the creation of any new leases reserving ground rents on dwellings and to provide for related matters.
—(Minister for Justice).

When is it proposed to take the Second Stage?

I suggest it be ordered also for next Tuesday. I think the Opposition spokesman is aware of the position in this regard and he promised that it would be discussed on Tuesday.

This is yet another National Coalition Bill.

I presume the Opposition will be ready for it.

It is important to know that the promise to abolish future ground rents was what the Coalition gave. This is legislation Fianna Fáil have been living on since the election. It is just another piece of Coalition legislation on which this Dáil has been living.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 22nd November, 1977.
