Vol. 302 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water Schemes.

404.

asked the Minister for the Environment the up to date position in relation to Adrigole and Trafrask group water scheme, County Cork; and when sanction for it will issue.

Cork County Council proposed to provide headworks and a supply main to serve the Adrigole and Trafrask group scheme. However, provisional costings made by my Department show that the group scheme would not be economic. My Department has therefore asked the county council to reconsider its proposals.

405.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve proposals from Offaly County Council for Killeigh-Killurine-Cloneygonan group water scheme, details for which have been with his Department since July this year.

My Department received the proposals referred to by the Deputy last August. The proposals relate to the treatment required to prevent the formation of calcium carbonate deposits in the group scheme pipelines. The complex issues involved have been discussed by the technical staff of the Offaly County Council and my Department and consideration is now being given to an alternative proposal. When agreement is reached on the most effective solution to the problem involved, my Department will advise the Killeigh-Killurine-Cloneygowan group on the installation and financing of the appropriate treatment works.
