Vol. 302 No. 2

Written Answers. - Male Life Expectancy.

340.

andMr. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the MSRB Report that Irish male life expectancy is worse in all five year age groups, from five years upwards, than it was ten years ago; and if he will indicate the degree of shift to preventive medicine and education of the public which he considers necessary in the light of this report's findings.

I have carefully studied the report to which the Deputies refer, that is, the annual report for 1976 of the Medico-Social Research Board.

I am currently considering a number of initiatives in the area of preventive care and health education and I hope to be in a position to make an announcement of my intentions in the near future.
