My Department's fishery research programme is mainly concerned with the management and conservation of fish stocks. Inspections of particular areas are also undertaken with a view to determining their suitability for fish farming. Existing commitments of the Department's scientific staff preclude the carrying out of specific surveys on the lines suggested by the Deputy at the moment.
