Vol. 302 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Electricity Scheme.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will extend the free electricity scheme to people receiving disability benefit.

Extension of the scheme to persons receiving short term benefits such as disability benefit is not contemplated.

Has the Minister any proposals to extend the scheme to people who are entitled to free electricity but are not connected to the ESB? Will he make some arrangement to facilitate them by having electricity installed for them?

That is a completely separate matter.

It is, but would the Minister be able to enlighten us on it?

I can only give the same answer that I gave to Deputy Browne. There are many things of that nature which are desirable and which come up for consideration from time to time when the operations of schemes are being reviewed.

I do not think the Minister quite understands——

I do understand.

——the point I have in mind. I am thinking of old age pensioners who are qualified.

There can be no argument, Deputy. I am calling Question No. 13.
