Vol. 302 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Travel Scheme.

28.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will agree to make free travel available to holders, now resident here, of invalidity benefit order books from the British Government.

The question of extensions of this kind to the free travel scheme is reviewed from time to time.

Would the Minister consider introducing extensions for the holders of invalidity order books? It appears to be similar to our free travel scheme.

The British do not have free travel.

I imagine there would be a small number of people involved. I have in mind one case that is causing great hardship, but there could not be more than 12 people involved.

The Deputy knows that the free travel scheme is one of my pet schemes and that any suitable extensions to it that can be afforded from time to time will be favourably considered.

Will the Minister consider this one?

I have looked at it.

The Minister's look has not been very conclusive.

I have indicated to the Deputy that all these schemes are reviewed from time to time and any possible extensions of them are looked at together.

There has been a lot of looking; what about some decisions?
