Vol. 302 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dunmore East Woods.

283.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware of the wishes of the trustees of the Dunmore East Woods, County Waterford, that their woods be made into a public park; and if he will consider taking these woods under the aegis of his Department or providing considerable finance to the trustees to this end; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that from time to time representations to the effect stated have been made by and on behalf of the trustees. In so far as the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department are concerned, however, the position is that the lands are unsuitable for afforestation and the service cannot involve themselves, financially or otherwise, in the development and maintenance of what would essentially be a town park.
