Vol. 302 No. 5

Written Answers. - Institutions for Children in Care.

291.

asked the Minister for Education the names and locations of all institutions in the State in which children or juveniles are in care or committed to care; who owns and manages each institution; the number of residents; the amount of State grant; the degree of State control or involvement; if they have a mixed-sex or single-sex management; the age of the buildings; the corrective practices that are carried out; if there are visiting committees or inspectors; if such visitors are enabled to hear the inmates in private; if these visitors ever issue reports; if these reports are available to the Dáil; and if educational courses are pursued there, and, if so, their nature and standard.

I would refer the Deputy to pages 94 to 96 of the Department's Statistical Report 1974/75-1975/76. The amount of work involved in compiling additional information on a different basis would not be warranted.
