Vol. 302 No. 6

Written Answers. - Prescribed Drugs Subsidy.

201.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the increased cost of drugs, he is prepared to review upwards sums payable by his Department in subsidy for special cases where repeated monthly payments, over the specified amount, for drugs are prescribed.

The base figures used in the scheme for assistance towards the cost of prescribed medicines were last revised on 1st May, 1976. Since that date the maximum net contribution payable by a person availing himself of the scheme is £6.50 per month. Any increase in the price of drugs since that date is reflected in the amount refunded by a health board, not in the purchaser's contribution.
