Vol. 302 No. 6

Written Answers. - Howth Harbour Development.

202.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if the proposed development of Howth, County Dublin, as a fishing harbour is based on the Bjuke Report.

The design for a fishery harbour to be built at Howth, of which the construction of Stage 1 will commence in 1978, is in accordance with the recommendations of Mr. C.G. Bjuke as originally set out in his "Report on the Project of Improvement of Fishery Harbour Facilities in Ireland" dated 30th October, 1959, and in subsequent reports furnished by him to the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries embodying essential modifications arising from detailed investigations carried out in the intervening period.

203.

asked the Minister for Fisheries the number of berths, giving the size of vessel catered for, that will be provided by the proposed development at Howth Harbour, County Dublin.

On the completion of Stage I of the construction of the new fishery harbour at Howth there will be accommodation for, at a minimum, 115 vessels of 50 feet in length or 83 vessels of 75 feet in length or 67 vessels of 90 feet in length or 15 vessels of 120 feet in length. The total number of vessels that can berth at any particular time will, of course, vary according to the number of vessels of each size-category seeking berthage at that time.
