Conversion of Roscrea exchange to automatic working is dependent on prior installation of a new automatic switching exchange in Portlaoise. The Commissioners of Public Works estimate that work currently in progress in adapting the former Irish Worsted Mills premises will be completed within about six months. It is expected that installation of the automatic switching exchange in Portlaoise and the conversion of Roscrea exchange to automatic working would be completed within a further 18 months.
