asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will furnish particulars of (a) the numbers and categories of appointments and promotions made during the period from 16th June, 1977, to 5th July, 1977, inclusive by or on the advice of the Government or a Minister, distinguishing between appointments to fill existing vacancies and to posts newly created; and (b) improvements effected during the same period in salaries or fees subject to Government or ministerial control, the particulars to exclude appointments effected through the competitive procedure of the Civil Service Commission, or the Local Appointments Commission and initial recruitment to the Defence Forces or the Garda Síochána.
