Vol. 302 No. 10

Written Answers. - Free Treatment of Diseases.

89.

asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has for the inclusion of asthma in the list of diseases for which medical treatment or medications are provided without charge.

90.

asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to replace the list of long-term illness for which drugs may be provided free by a register based on need for long-term treatment regardless of the underlying disease.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 89 and 90 together.

The possibility of adding to the list of long-term illness is currently being examined.

I have no plans to replace the list of long-term illnesses by a register of the kind mentioned by the Deputy. Such a proposal would, in any event, require amendment of the Health Acts before it could be introduced.
