Vol. 302 No. 10

Written Answers. - Bovine TB Eradication.

113.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of a number of dairy herds in the Kilnamartyra area of Macroom, County Cork, being wiped out in the TB eradication scheme and if he will allow them to participate in the Beef Cattle Incentive Scheme or the EEC Conversion Scheme.

I am aware that serious outbreaks of bovine tuberculosis have taken place in a number of dairy herds in the area referred to by the Deputy. The beef cattle incentive scheme does not operate in this area which is designated as severely handicapped. The herdowners concerned could, however, participate in the EEC scheme of premiums for non-marketing of milk or milk products or for the conversion of dairy herds subject to compliance with the conditions of the scheme.
