Vol. 303 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

310.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly.

The claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 5 October 1977 was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that she did not satisfy the statutory condition which requires a claimant to be available for employment. She appealed against this decision and arrangements were made for an oral hearing of her appeal on 23 January 1978. However she notified the Department on that date that due to illness she was unable to attend and the appeal hearing had to be postponed. She will be notified in due course of the place, date and time of the further hearing at which it will be open to her to attend and give evidence on her own behalf.

311.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) in County Kerry has not qualified for unemployment assistance.

The application of the person concerned for unemployment assistance was disallowed by a deciding officer of my Department on the ground that his weekly rate of means exceeded the statutory limit applicable in his case. He has been notified of this decision and of his right of appeal against it if he is dissatisfied.
