asked the Minister for Fisheries the number of purchasers of boats of (a) under 50 foot (b) 50 to 65 foot (c) 65 to 80 foot, who are in arrears in their re-payments to BIM; the number in respect of whom court proceedings have been (a) initiated and (b) concluded; and the number of boats repossessed this year, together with the total number of borrowers from the board at present.

Following is the information sought:

Of the purchasers listed at (a), (b) and (c) above:

143 have arrears of less than £500

53 have arrears of £500 to £1,000

36 have arrears of £1,001 to £3,000

16 have arrears of £3,001 to £6,000

15 have arrears of £6,001 to £10,000

29 have arrears of over £10,000.

Legal proceedings were initiated by BIM against 18 boat purchasers in 1977 for recovery of arrears; of these 4 cases were concluded in 1977.

One boat was repossessed by BIM in 1977.

At present the total number of borrowers for the purchase of boats with BIM is 438.
