Vol. 303 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ship-Shore Communications.

323.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport whether he is aware of the serious concern in the Kinsale area, County Cork following recent tragedies involving the loss of two lives; and whether he will make arrangements for the provision of suitable radio-telecommunication equipment at the Old Head of Kinsale in the interest of safety of life at sea.

I am aware of two incidents involving loss of life at sea in the Kinsale area in the latter half of 1977. In one instance a man was, apparently, swept off the rocks while fishing, while, in the other case, it appears that the victim was sailing in an eight-foot dinghy. I have no information to suggest that the adequacy or otherwise of radio communications had any bearing on either tragedy.
