Vol. 303 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Child Disappearance Investigation.

18.

asked the Minister for Health if the internal investigation into the disappearance of the child from St. Kyran's Home, Rathdrum, County Wicklow, has been completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received a report from my Department on the circumstances surrounding the removal of this child from St. Kyran's Home, Rathdrum, County Wicklow. A number of recommendations for changes in existing arrangements have been made and these will be discussed in the immediate future with the authorities of children's residential homes and the health boards. Until these discussions have taken place, it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment on the matter. I shall consider the extent to which it might be desirable to issue a further statement when these discussions have been concluded.

Would the Minister consider it would be in the public interest to have the recommendations and the results of the inquiry published?

What I would propose to do is when the changes have been worked out in detail to publish the whole thing.
