Vol. 303 No. 4

Written Answers. - Employment Action Team.

260.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of people under 25 years who have received employment as a direct result of the proposals of the Employment Action Team; and if he will provide a breakdown of such jobs.

The Government recently approved proposals from the Employment Action Team for the following schemes : (a) Work Experience Programme; (b) Environmental Improvement Schemes Programme; (c) Apprentice Recruitment by Local Authorities; (d) Employment of Young people on Survey Work. The team has estimated that these proposals would provide opportunities for at least 4,000 young people.

Details of the approved schemes are at present being worked out by the Departments and agencies concerned. Each Department will seek to implement the proposals as speedily as possible.

A further proposal from the team in relation to a physical fitness project is being considered by the Minister for Health in the context of possible other wider proposals in the health field generally.
