Vol. 303 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Donegal Garda Strength.

238.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will increase the number of gardaí in Convoy Garda Station, County Donegal, in view of the increasing crime rate in the area.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the police service in the Convoy area is reasonably adequate having regard to other demands on Garda resources. It is not possible to provide an increase in strength at present, but the position will be kept under review and the police needs of the area will be further considered according as the additional manpower at present being recruited becomes available for assignment.

239.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied that the Garda strength in the Glenties/ Dungloe sub-district of County Donegal is adequate to cope with crime in the district.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current allocation of Garda strength to both Glenties and Dungloe is the maximum that can be provided at present, having regard to other demands on the available resources.

The police needs of both areas will be considered according as extra manpower at present being recruited becomes available for assignment.
