Vol. 305 No. 7

Road Transport Bill 1978: Financial Resolution.

I move:

That it is expedient to make provision for the charging of fees by the Minister for Tourism and Transport in respect of licences provided for under, or referred to in, any Act of the present session to amend and extend the Road Transport Act, 1933, and the Road Transport Act, 1971.

Could the Minister tell us what the charge is now, or what it is proposed to be?

We have no proposal at the moment.

What is it at the moment?

It is just ensuring that in relation to certain types of licences we have authority to charge.

What is the charge now?

The fee for a permit authorising one journey under a bilateral agreement is £2 and the fee for an ECMT licence is £60.

When were they fixed?

Within the last couple of years.

Did the Minister say the fee of the EEC licence is £2?

No, under the bilateral agreement.

Is there a separate fee for an EEC licence as opposed to an ECMT licence?

There is a separate licence for the ECMT.

As opposed to the EEC?

There is no fee for the EEC licence.

Is it proposed to charge one?

Sorry, there is a fee. I will get it later.

There is a fee?

Is it intended that the licence fee will be increased to a substantial extent keeping in line with inflation?

There is no decision on it at the moment, it is just to leave it open so as to be in a position to charge fees.

Question put and agreed to.
