Vol. 305 No. 8

Written Answers. - Howth Harbour.

390.

asked the Minister for Fisheries the number of models which have been built for Howth harbour, County Dublin; when and where they were built; the terms of reference given for each model; and if any recommendations were made in respect of control of the huge sand deposits west of Howth harbour when the present sea-bed equilibrium is disturbed.

In connection with the preparation of a plan to develop a fishery harbour centre at Howth model studies were made by Trinity College, Dublin, during 1962-63 and the Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1970-72. The terms of reference of these studies were to evaluate post scheme conditions in the harbour area and its approaches at, respectively, preliminary and advanced stages of development. These studies did not include siltation as this is not expected to be a significant problem.
