Vol. 305 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youghal (Cork) Industry.

24.

andMr. Kelly asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the special efforts that are being or will be made by the Industrial Development Authority to attract new industrial enterprise to Youghal, County Cork.

25.

andMr. Kelly asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will declare Youghal, Co. Cork, and its immediate hinterland to be a designated area for industrial grant purpose, in view of the recent decline in industrial employment there and imminent further redundancies.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

I do not consider that the designation of Youghal for industrial grant purposes is the most suitable course to adopt in present circumstances. My Department, together with the Department of Labour and the Industrial Development Authority, are taking all possible steps to preserve employment in existing industry in the town. The IDA are also actively promoting Youghal as a location for new industry and will support any suitable industrial project proposed for the area.
