Vol. 305 No. 9

Written Answers. - Local Authority Development Plans.

355.

asked the Minister for the Environment the relationship his Department have with Bord Fáilte with regard to reviewing the revision of local authority development plans.

357.

asked the Minister for the Environment if Bord Fáilte are requested by his Department to provide comments regarding the potential tourism prospects and implications contained in the proposed provisions of the development plan.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 355 and 357 together. Under the provisions of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts, 1963 and 1976, the making of a development plan or any variation of such plan is a reserved function of the planning authority. As part of the statutory procedure, draft development plans and draft variations are forwarded by the planning authority to Bord Fáilte and to the other prescribed authorities and any observations or objections made to the planning authority are considered by them before the draft plan or variation is adopted. My Department are not involved in these procedures and the question of a relationship with Bord Fáilte in that respect does not arise.
