Vol. 305 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dwellings Cost.

404.

asked the Minister for the Environment the average cost to the Exchequer, at present, of the provision of the following types of local authority dwellings (a) one bedroomed; (b) two bedroomed and (c) three bedroomed.

On the basis of an analysis of recent tenders for schemes submitted to my Department, it is estimated that the average all-in costs of one-bedroomed, two-bedroomed and three-bedroomed new local authority houses are £8,430, £9,160 and £12,640 respectively. With effect from 1 January 1977, the Exchequer generally meets in full the loan charges incurred in the provision of local authority dwellings for letting. Thus, the average annual cost to the Exchequer, at present, of providing a new local authority (a) one-bedroomed (b) two-bedroomed and (c) three-bedroomed house for letting, is of the order of (a) £950, (b) £1,032 and (c) £1,424 respectively.
