Vol. 305 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Electricity Scheme.

30.

andMr. Kerrigan asked the Minister for Defence if he will amend the free electricity scheme for veterans of the War of Independence, which is operated by his Department, to extend the scheme to widows of such veterans; the number of such widows; and the estimated cost of extending the scheme to them.

The question of extending the free electricity and television scheme is essentially a matter for consideration in the context of the budget and will be raised in connection with next year's budget.

It is estimated that about 4,500 widows would be involved and that the annual cost would be of the order of £200,000.
