Vol. 306 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

287.

asked the Minister for Education the number of children who would otherwise be eligible and who are presently ineligible for free transport to their nearest primary school, because there are not enough children in their particular area to justify the provision of a school bus, and for whom no other form of public transport is available; the approximate number of such children in each county; the estimated cost of extending the free transport scheme to all such children; and the average cost per child of the existing free transport scheme at primary level.

The statistics requested are not available. The average annual cost per primary school child carried was £75-92 in 1976, the latest year for which audited accounts are available.
