Vol. 306 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

291.

asked the Minister for Education why the children of Drimsree, Rathangan, County Kildare, who had a school bus service from their homes, have had this service withdrawn, and the children asked to walk to the cross-roads; if he is aware that the road on which the children live is a public road used by heavy articulated vehicles; and that it is not accepted that the school bus could not use this road as a large bus operated on this road for a long period.

I am informed by CIE that the road in question is very narrow, 7 feet 6 inches in places, and that the school bus, which is being used since July 1976 to cater for a larger number of pupils is 6 feet 10¼ inches in width and was withdrawn from this road in the interests of safety.
