asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if a compulsory purchase order has ever been used for the acquisition of land by the IDA; and if the IDA are contemplating using compulsory purchase orders in County Kerry or West Limerick.

Compulsory purchase powers have been used by the Industrial Development Authority on three occasions in the past to acquire property at Ringaskiddy, County Cork and at Aughinish Island, County Limerick.

The authority are using their powers of compulsory purchase at present to acquire 197 acres of land in the Tarbert/Ballylongford area of County Kerry. Formal notification ("Notices to Treat") in the matter were issued on 5 May 1978 to the landowners concerned. The authority are not at present contemplating the use of a compulsory purchase order in respect of any lands in West Limerick.
