Vol. 306 No. 6

Written Answers. - Clerical Job Application Fees.

166.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the practice of some vocational education committees of charging a £1.00 fee to applicants for clerical jobs; if he will specify the VEC's concerned; and if he will abolish the practice.

The purpose of charging the fee in question is (a) to ensure that applicants are genuine and (b) to help offset the examination costs.

It is open to vocational education committees to charge such fee. I do not propose to specify the VECs concerned nor to abolish the practice.
