Vol. 307 No. 2

Written Answers . - Naval Uniforms .

152.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that imported clothing is being used in the Naval Section of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: Items of uniform for non-commissioned officers and seamen of the Naval Service are, with the exception of the caps, manufactured in Ireland from Irish materials. Efforts to have the caps made in Ireland have proved unsuccessful, as the requirements are too small to interest potential manufacturers.

Officers of the Naval Service are in receipt of uniform allowance and arrange directly with approved tailoring establishments for the making up of their uniforms. These establishments make their own arrangements for obtaining the materials required.
