Vol. 307 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - International Telephone Exchange .

20.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reasons for the recent disruption of normal services at the international telephone exchange; and the steps which have been taken to rectify the situation.

(Dublin South-Central): The interruption of service in the International Telephone Exchange for some hours on the night of Monday, 22 May, was caused by unofficial industrial action by the night operating staff. The action was apparently in support of representations in regard to overtime which were being processed under the agreed representation procedures by the Post Office Workers' Union which represents the staff concerned. The problem was since discussed further between the Department and the union, as had been arranged before the unofficial industrial action was taken, and proposals for a resolution of the problem formulated.

: Would the Minister indicate if the international telex and telephone services are working satisfactorily at the moment?

(Dublin South-Central): That has nothing to do with this question.

: Are the services operating at full capacity?

(Dublin South-Central): I have not that information.

: Are they working satisfactorily now? Would it be possible for me to get a telex message to Spain for instance?

(Dublin South-Central): Yes, on the international telephone exchange.
